Had fun creating this cute mushroom pattern for @sketchdesignrepeat Fungi Forest #3x3designchallenge ! 🍄 My entry for the #3x3designchallenge “Nice To Sea You” prompt. 🐠🐟I was inspired to create in a style that represents block printing, which I love! Created in procreate, I used linocut brushes to “carve” the designs out of a block of color, in a commonly used shape in traditional block printing- the scallop. These were then pieced together to form a repeating pattern. Damask patterns originated in China over one thousand years ago and are a timeless design style that designers still love to create and use today. Modern damasks often stray from the traditional motifs of acanthus leaves, feathers, fruit, and bouquets of flowers. Here is one of my takes on the damask- a touch of modern with old world elements. Just a little reminder…especially for those of you who’s Valentine’s Day isn’t the Hallmark version. 💕 Happy Friday! Here’s a modern take on the historical Millefleurs style, which means thousand flowers in French. It was a common design style in the late Middle Ages and Early Renaissance. This cheerful pattern was created from start to finish in Procreate…from sketching the motifs, to creating the pattern square. Here is the original illustration that yesterday’s post was made from. In that post, I used the main flower motif to create a simple symmetrical pattern. I feel like I should use the other elements to create a cute tossed repeat- I feel a new pattern coming on! #wearesurfacepatterndesign #illustration #bestillandknow #bestill #meditationquotes #womanartist #womanillustrator #pattern #procreateart #symmetry Happy Monday to you! 🍄 New year, new you! Haha. Okay, won’t be that cheesy, but it is a good time to re-evaluate. Here’s to you and whatever new beginnings you’re embarking on this year. It’s going to be a good one, I just know it! 🪷
